"I work for the brand Missoma, and my team and I came to see Rebecca and her team for some welding training - the experience from start to finish was not only super insightful, where we all gained so much knowledge, but it was a very enjoyable day.  A really great day where we all learnt so much, thank you"

“From the moment we began working together, Rebecca & Carol brought not only deep expertise in welding but also such warmth, energy, and professionalism that made the entire training process seamless. Their approach was incredibly hands-on, adaptable, and empowering - exactly what we needed to build confidence across our 7 retail stores ahead of launch. The feedback from our retail teams was overwhelmingly positive - they felt genuinely supported, equipped, and excited to bring this new skill to life for our customers. It really set the tone for how we wanted our service experience to feel: premium, personal, and polished.

With love from all of us at Jewells x “

"Doing my online training for PJ with Weld was the best business decision I’ve ever made. The videos & theory are so in depth and informative I felt like I was right with the girls in the classroom.

Since completing the training in April I’ve stopped doing nails and am earning pretty much double what I was as a nail tech, in half of the time.

Thank you so much Rebecca - you’ve changed my life"

 Frequently asked Questions

Do I need training to start a permanent jewellery business?

There are many useful permanent jewellery tutorials and demonstrations available online. However, the feedback we consistently receive from our students is that they value having every stage broken down clearly, taught in the correct order and available in one trusted place.

Structured training can make learning the skill much quicker and helps prevent costly mistakes when choosing equipment, materials and suppliers. Students also tell us that having ongoing access to our team for questions, troubleshooting and personal support is one of the biggest benefits of training with Weld™.

Is permanent jewellery training available online or in person?

Weld™ offers both online and one-to-one in-person permanent jewellery training. Our online course provides instant, lifetime access and can be completed at your own pace.

In-person training runs from 9am–3pm at our Poulton-le-Fylde studio and includes pre-study plus lifetime access to the complete online course. If you begin online and later decide that you would benefit from hands-on support, you can upgrade to in-person training and pay the difference

Do I need previous jewellery or welding experience?

No. Our permanent jewellery training is designed for complete beginners as well as jewellers, salon owners and established beauty professionals adding a new service.

We explain the equipment, terminology, safety procedures, fitting process and welding technique step by step. You do not need previous jewellery-making or welding experience.

How long does permanent jewellery training take?

The online course is self-paced, so there is no fixed completion deadline. Many students work through the training and begin feeling confident within approximately two weeks, although the time required will depend on how regularly you practice.

In-person training is a focused practical day running from 9am–3pm, supported by online pre-study and lifetime course access afterwards.

What is included in the permanent jewellery training?

The training covers:
  • Choosing and setting up a suitable welder
  • Argon setup and equipment guidance
  • Chains, charms and jump rings
  • Measuring bracelets, anklets and necklaces
  • Opening, closing and welding jump rings
  • Hand positioning and welding control
  • Troubleshooting weak or inconsistent welds
  • Safety, contraindications and risk assessments
  • UK hallmarking and insurance guidance
  • Trusted suppliers and purchasing links
  • Pricing, profit margins and stock planning
  • Marketing and planning permanent jewellery pop-ups

The course also includes pricing resources, supplier guidance and ongoing support from the Weld™ team.

Is the permanent jewellery course accredited?

Yes. Both our online and in-person permanent jewellery training courses are ABT accredited. After successfully completing the course, you will receive a printable digital certificate. This can be displayed in your business and used when arranging appropriate professional insurance.

What support will I receive after training?

You will continue to have access to the Weld™ team after completing your training. If you need help with equipment setup, welding problems, suppliers or launching your service, you can contact us for personal support.

We can also arrange one-to-one calls or video consultations when needed, and students are invited to join our dedicated community for ongoing guidance and encouragement.

How long will I have access to the online course?

You will receive lifetime access to the online permanent jewellery course. You can revisit the demonstrations, supplier information, business guidance and troubleshooting modules whenever you need them. This is also included with in-person training, so you are not expected to remember everything from your practical training day.

How much does it cost to start a permanent jewellery business?

Start-up costs vary depending on your chosen welder, whether you purchase a starter kit and how much stock you initially carry.

A budget setup using entry-level equipment can begin at approximately £2000, including training, essential tools and a basic welder.
A professional setup with a higher-specification welder and a broader range of chains and charms can cost £2,500–£5,000 or more.

You do not need to purchase the most expensive equipment or a large collection of stock immediately. Our training explains the different options so you can build a setup that suits your budget and business plans.

Is a welder included with the course or starter kit?

No. A welder is not included with the online course, in-person training or starter kit. This allows students to choose a machine that suits their budget, expected workload and preferred setup. Inside the training, we demonstrate four popular welders and explain the differences between entry-level and professional options

Do I need to buy stock before starting the training?

No. You can enrol and begin the theory modules before purchasing your welder, tools or stock. The course includes detailed equipment explanations and direct supplier links, helping you make informed purchases rather than ordering unsuitable products. If you want materials ready for the practical modules, you can purchase our training and starter-kit package.

What welder and equipment do I need?

You will need a suitable pulse-arc welder, precision pliers, grounded pliers, flush cutters, protective equipment, quality jump rings, chain and practice materials. The right welder depends on your budget, the metals you want to offer and how frequently you expect to use it. Our training demonstrates four popular machines and provides trusted purchasing options.

Do I need argon gas for permanent jewellery welding?

Some permanent jewellery welders can operate without argon, but using argon can help create cleaner, more consistent welds and reduce oxidation. The course explains which machines can use argon, what equipment is required and how to set it up safely. We break the process down clearly because it is far less intimidating than it initially sounds.

Will I need insurance to offer permanent jewellery?

Yes. You should arrange appropriate professional insurance before offering permanent jewellery to paying customers. Weld™ is an accredited training provider, and the course includes guidance on insurance, risk assessments, client safety and trusted UK insurance options. Always confirm the exact requirements directly with your chosen insurer.

Do hallmarking regulations apply to permanent jewellery?

Yes, UK hallmarking requirements do apply and depend on the type and total weight of precious metal being sold.

Items below the statutory weight thresholds may be exempt, but businesses must still describe materials accurately.

The current compulsory hallmarking thresholds are: Gold: over 1 gram Silver: over 7.78 grams Platinum: over 0.5 grams Palladium: over 1 gram We explain how UK hallmarking regulations apply to chains, charms and finished permanent jewellery within the training.

The official thresholds are confirmed in the UK Government’s hallmarking guidance.

Can a permanent jewellery business be profitable?

Permanent jewellery can generate attractive profit margins, but earnings depend on your material costs, pricing, customer demand, location and how actively you market the service. Potential revenue streams include studio appointments, salon services, private parties, weddings, festivals, pop-ups, brand activations and ready-to-wear personalised jewellery. Our training includes pricing spreadsheets to help you calculate your genuine costs and set profitable prices without relying on unrealistic income claims.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Klarna, Clearpay and PayPal payment options are available at checkout, subject to the individual provider’s approval and terms. This allows eligible students to spread the cost of in person, online training or training with a starter kit. Some independent welder suppliers may also provide their own payment options.

Where does in-person permanent jewellery training take place?

Our one-to-one training takes place at the Weld™ studio in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire. The studio is approximately five minutes’ walk from Poulton-le-Fylde railway station and is easily reached via Preston. Training dates vary depending on availability and are displayed on the in-person course page.
